Ozone Standard,» states that a majority of
new reductions would have to come from «unknown controls.»
«To meet the
new standards,» the National Journal says: «states will have to form plans that will limit emissions of
ozone - forming pollutants from two major sources: stationary sources such as power plants and factories, and transportation» — which will reduce energy intensive economic activity.
The EPA's scientific advisors recommended a
new standard of 60 - 70 parts per billion for
ozone.
A month after the EPA released its
new standards, a National Research Council report concluded that premature deaths related to
ozone exposure of less than 24 hours are more likely among those with pre-existing diseases.
