Time to lighten and brighten by removing the half wall in the shower — and sadly, yes, that means the handrail too will make its exit — and making the entire space feel as large as possible with new, light tile and a glass shower door.

That included new flooring, a modern sink, shower and toilet, a new ceiling fixture, a couple of closet doors, and the application of precast concrete walls for a cool, contemporary look.

Over the past few weeks, here's what has been accomplished: Demo Sand glitter off the walls (thanks hubby) Some painting Install new cement based sub floor (the former sub floor was sunken, rotting wood) Install extractor fan Install tile Grout Change door location Install vanity Purchase fixtures (lighting, shower faucet, sinks) Hook up plumbing; install faucets

We've stalled out though and need to change out the shower door (it's that 80's shiny gold brass) and we need a new vanity.

The new shower is nothing short of luxurious with Carrera marble tile, corner bench and glass door and partition.

We also replaced our old leaky shower door with a new clear glass one and replaced the vanity top and faucet.

I got my toilet, faucets, all shower accessories and new door knobs online for the master bathroom and 1/2 bath!

Every newer house we looked at had an open room with sinks (no door from the bedroom to the bath) and then a separate toilet / shower room with tile or vinyl flooring.

The shower screen had seen better days so was switched out for a new glass door (it cost $ 450).

That style that was at the time so new that was quite surprising, now is much more common and still very «in», 13 years later (at least here in Italy, don't know about the USA): minimal bowl sinks on thick wood shelf, transparent glass shower door and a minimal toilet that still looks like out of the last catalogue.
