I haven't read the full article, but from the snip - it that RMC posted, it sounds like that IS how Sakurai designed Melee (because he praises gamers for recognizing it) but that in designing new Smash Bros he doesn't want the big skill gap differences (that are apparent in Melee).

While I definitely agree that this is a brand new Smash rather than an «enhanced» Smash 4 port, I think it'll still be VERY similar to Smash 4 in many ways.

I think that they're working on an entirely new Smash game personally.

Like many others, we don't see how Nintendo could create an all - new Smash Bros. in time for the NX's launch — rumoured to be this year.

And instead of the old theme song, it'll be the new smash hit from Carley Rae Jepsen, «Call Me Brady»...

If they eventually release Rayman Legends on other consoles that particular driving force evaporates for me, but a new Smash Brothers pulls too many beer soaked college heartstrings to resist.

I guess it is a surprise a new smash is coming out so soon, but still, I don't get why people would be screaming and punching themselves in the balls because they are so out of control over a new Smash game coming out soon.

Also, (i) the 2018 copyright date at the end of the video, (ii) the absence of Bandai Namco (who developed Smash Bros. 4) next to that copyright notice, (iii) the new Smash Bros. title logo, (iv) the presence of brand new characters, (v) the working title in Nintendo's press release, and (vi) the recent tweet from Sakurai that he has been working on this game in secret for some time point pretty definitively to this being a new Smash Bros..

@dragonagelore: How did you come to this conclusion, seeing as the article you're posting to is about the new Smash Bros. which will most likely be a new game?

Historically new entries have came in as little as 2 years (SSB Vanilla to SSBMelee) and as long as 6 (SSBBrawl to SSB Wii U) So it's highly likely they could make a new Smash Bros in 4 years even if the first two years the team was split between making minor character DLC for the last game while most of the team worked on the new game.

Heck, that Zelda tech demo showed us what Zelda TP would look like in HD on the Wii U. But, I'm guessing it's going to look like Zelda SS and TP mixed together (what Link looks like in the new smash bros..)

(I'm hopping the art style and graphics are going to be how they appear in the new Smash brothers.

What I want from the Direct is HD remakes of all N64 games, Mario Kart Wii to be re-released featuring HD, a perfect roster, a perfect single and multiplayer experience, a new F - Zero with every past playable character, a new Smash game releasing next week, a new non-lackluster Mario Party to be released tomorrow, Mario Tennis Ultra Smash to somehow have double the content, Rosalina to be the star of a brand new Galaxy game and more cause I'm greedy.
