There were no significant differences in sedation - related adverse events including inadequate pain management, inadequate sedation management, extubation failure, ventilator - associated pneumonia, catheter - associated bloodstream infection, or
new tracheostomy.
The creation of a
new permanent opening into the trachea in the neck area (called a permanent
tracheostomy) may be the only solution, although there are complications associated with this procedure as well.
