Cindy was really asking me whether or not I believe using a

for most
authors and publishers who were involved in the world of independent book publishing.

and beyond a possible review we might run about the book itself.
This
news should serve as a conversation starter
for authors and publishers — especially smaller press publishing houses — who have yet to explore the options of international distribution, an important market option considering the lack of available English language content in direct proportion to the numbers of English speakers in many of these countries.
While this
news really shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone in publishing, it should speak to the need
for both traditional
and independent
publishers, the latter term including
authors who self - publish their books, to ensure that they are reaching out to audiences in every possible format.
Other good
news is that the two big British
publishers, Random House
and Hachette, which together have over 30 % of the UK book market, are to offer downloadable versions
for many of their top
authors, ranging from Delia Smith to Ian McEwan
and Michael Parkinson.
But it's bad
news for those
publishers and authors (
and book publicists) who have been slow to adapt to the online world, or who just don't want to see how the Internet relates to book promotion.
This is great
news for everyone involved in the audiobook market — from
authors and publishers, to audiobook narrators
and of course, those who love listening to audiobooks.
The good
news is that, ironically, it's now easier
for Kiwi
publishers and authors to sell to readers overseas than to NZ readers so I guess that's an incentive to go global.
GoodeReader covered the
news this week that ebook distribution platform Ganxy allows
authors and publishers to more easily bundle their ebooks, but that is only one of the features
for bookselling.
And there's certainly no good
news for book publicists, or
for authors or
publishers who are orchestrating book promotion campaigns right now.
Great
news for authors who don't want to shop their manuscript around to agents
and publishers, wasting months
and even years of legwork, right?
This is great
news for both the
author and the
publisher, as it gives them opportunities to grow professionally
and reach more people.
