They were devoted to learning about the good
news of eternal life.

In such circumstances the fundamental gospel promise
of forgiveness and
eternal life is heard as genuine Good
News.
So often, it seems that such is the presentation
of the Good
News — if you will conform outwardly to this shape, this liturgy, this behavior... then... you will have
eternal life.
The good
news, the Gospel, is that while God is holy and we are sinners, and sin deserves punishment, God, out
of His great love for us, sent His one and only Son, Jesus Christ to die in our place for our sin so that anyone who wants
eternal life in heaven with God can simply believe in Jesus Christ for it and it will be given to them.
And although «gospel» almost universally today refers to good
news about forgiveness
of sin and the offer
of eternal life through Jesus Christ, the word itself carries no such connotations.
The good
news is, that Christ came to planet earth as an atonement
of sins, for all those that believe in Him and have accepted His plan
of salvation to
eternal life.
And I ended up rejecting it, because I think that the emphasis on the law completely misses the point
of the law and misrepresents the good
news message
of Jesus that anyone and everyone can have
eternal life simply and only by believing in Jesus for it.
The gospel is good
news for all aspects
of life, not just good
news about how to receive
eternal life.
The third scenario would seem to be where the two tendencies continue, each on its own path, in a dynamic but notnecessarily destructive tension, with secular rationalists seeking to discredit the motives and actions
of the Church leadership in the post-Vatican II era, while those who affirm a hermeneutic
of continuity urge that the Good
News be understood as primarily concerned with
eternal life rather than secular interests.

news and reject it are condemned not because they were unable to believe, but because they rejected the saving message and hence in effect judged themselves unworthy

When we refuse to help others with their physical needs because their greatest need is

The Gospel is the amazing

Sometime during the tribulation, they believed in Jesus for
eternal life, and because
of this, they obeyed what God's Word said they should do, and took care
of the Jewish missionaries who had shared the good
news of the Gospel with them in the first place.

eternal life.
