Next time you are looking to book an award ticket and you can't find
availability, use this technique and you may end up finding a
flight you like.
Not just for this week, not just for
next month... but many
flights have multiple seats of award
availability off and on throughout the entire
next year.
If you're planning a trip to Hawaii and are ready to book your
flights in the
next few days so you can verify
availability before you transfer or are flexible enough that you can wait for
availability with Hawaiian Airlines, this could be a good transfer for you, especially if you don't live on the West Coast.
I checked JFK — SIN (via Frankfurt)
availability for the
next April and May and found at least 8 dates each month, with 2 seats available for most
flights.
If you just are browsing award
flights one day, and come back the
next to book it, the
availability may be gone or at a higher level.
Thanks to their award chart devaluation I'm going to be crediting my Delta
flights to Alaska Airlines
next calendar year (hopefully after a status match gets me to MVP Gold or MVP Gold 75K), but in the meantime Platinum Medallion is absolutely priceless for the ability to rebook awards — for free — from the «medium» and «high» levels to the «low» level as award
availability appears.
Once you've found the departing
flights on the dates you'd like, the
next step is to find a hotel with
availability.
It has trouble with some partner award
availability and pulling up awards with mixed cabins (for instance, if one
flight has a business - class seat
availability but the
next segment only has economy awards available), though that seems to have gotten better lately.
