I've completed my final portrait of 2010 — this is Takoda, a lovely white German Shepherd in
a nice white mat & black frame.

I definitely agree, natural lighting really is the key — I really like using bright and colourful place
mats to liven mine up, but do love the simplicity that
nice white table or wooden surface has on the piccie.
Now I have 17m of very pretty
white and grey braid that will probably become a bath
mat in the very near future:) Not a total disaster, but I'm just not willing to dedicate the next 3 months to braiding fabric in the hopes that it * might * make a
nice rug (which definitely isn't guaranteed even after all that braiding!).
A few other takeaways from these inspiration photos: 1) brass fixtures and lighting look really
nice against dark walls, 2)
matted photography and art really pop against a dark wall, and 3) adding in some color through rugs and other textiles as well as bringing in some stark
white can help a dark - walled room still feel bright and cheery.
Then a couple of
nice black and
white mats and you will be rocking it as always!
