However, Wragges has been seeking a tie - up
with a smaller London firm
with several
niche practice areas since realising it was struggling to make real headway in the competitive City market, since launching there in 2000.
Being selective about
practice niches is less of a concern in larger shared law office suite
with many attorneys from diverse
practice areas.
You can minimize the opportunity for mistakes by avoiding bad clients and staying
with your
practice area niche.

Since I planned to continue
practicing family law, I just took as many CLE's as possible in
niche areas that I did not feel as comfortable
with but knew might come up during an initial consultation.

Establishing a
niche practice can help
with that, either by focusing on one specific
area of the law in which you can become the go - to person in your community, or focusing on a specific type of client or community to serve.
If you are married to one
niche or pricing structure or have so much overhead you can not afford to learn other
practice areas or innovate
with pricing models or packaging of your services then you are making a critical mistake.

For example, in my shift from a quasi-legal role at an investment bank into a student - at - law position, I drew on my
niche experience
with OTC derivatives as my connector and targeted law firms that had an existing
practice in that
area or was building one out.
However, it's telling that the research doesn't break down its subjects by
practice area; it's hard to imagine that a solicitor
with low sociability could, for instance, make a success of family law, which requires bucket loads of personal interaction and, as very best in the
niche know, a generous capacity for empathy.
Now I can also distinguish myself
with some of my experience but what a lot of folks seem to be saying is that in addition to that you want to look at how can you distinguish what type of personal injury
practice you are building, and so, then it gets to, okay, well then how do I do that, if you accept that and say, okay, well finding your little
area, finding a
niche is good, so estate and trust attorneys don't want to be just estate and trust attorneys, they have to find a little
niche and if you are PI attorney don't want to just be a general, I take every PI case.
