Your midwife may prescribe a topical all - purpose -

ointment for treating topical yeast as well, which can be taken in between the applications of gentian violet.

While you're shopping, get some breast pads to tuck into your bra to absorb any leaks and some purified or «medical - grade» lanolin

Be careful of the all purpose
nipple ointment (APNO) though, it does contain a steroid which should only be used very sparingly, never
for longer than two weeks, in the smallest amount possible that is still effective, and it can delay wound healing — so be even more cautious if you have open wounds on your
nipples.
She recommended APNO (all purpose
nipple ointment) which a pharmacist has to mix but you don't need a prescription
for.
If your
nipples are sore, the lanolin cream will help protect them so they can heal, but it's a safe
ointment for your baby to ingest — that means you won't have to scrub your sore
nipples before every feeding.
Sometimes
nipple ointments such as Lansinoh ™, Purlan ™ and others can be very useful
for mild to moderate pain, but fixing the latch is still the best treatment.
Due to popular demand, Sheepish Grins has put out a special solid lanolin specifically
for use as a
nipple ointment.
It is recommended as more of a preventive cream vs. a healing
ointment for cracked bleeding
nipples.
Risk factors
for mastitis and blocked ducts include mastitis with a previous child, cracked or sore
nipples, use of
ointments other than lanolin near the
nipples, inappropriate or inconsistent breastfeeding / pumping, and in general the use of pump since it is less efficient than an infant mouth at breast - emptying.

I used Lansinoh
for nipple tenderness during the early days of nursing, but it has really come in handy as a gentle
ointment for my little guy's bottom
for occasional redness.
But many find comfort from these topical

We seemed to be on our way to getting rid of it when I got mastitis and was put on antibiotic s that seem to have brought ot back so we went back to the pedi and she prescribed more nystatin I've been treating him with ot I've tried the full 2 ml each time I've tried the swabbing the areas and having him swallow the rest and ove tired using it on my
nipples as well, I finally was prescribed an
ointment for my
nipples with nystatin the same active ingredients as monistat and a steroid tonhelp with swelling and pain and have been using that after each feeding... and it still will not go away!
