The
goals of Parent University include providing support for families so that they may achieve personal academic and
non-academic goals; providing parents and families with the necessary resources to support their children's emotional growth and development; and increasing the number
of parents who feel positively connected to their child's
school.
While states still have to comply with NCLB's mandate
of testing students in reading and math in grades 3 through 8 and once in high
school, with ESSA, they would be permitted to set their own student achievement
goals, identify their own academic and
non-academic (i.e.,
school climate, teacher engagement) indicators for accountability, design their own intervention plans for their lowest performing
schools, and implement their own teacher evaluation systems.
