Nearly 40 percent of companies in the XpertHR poll still believe confidentiality or
nondisclosure agreements should be a part of sexual harassment settlements — and 1 in 5 said they have
reached such a settlement during the last five years.
Along with a request that women walking the red carpet at the Golden Globes speak out and raise awareness by wearing black, the initiative includes a legal defense fund, backed by $ 13 million in donations, to help less privileged women — like janitors, nurses, farm and factory workers, waitresses, hotel housekeepers — protect themselves from sexual misconduct and the fallout from reporting it; legislation to penalize companies that tolerate persistent harassment, and to discourage the use of
nondisclosure agreements to silence victims; and a drive to at long last
reach gender parity at studios and talent agencies that reportedly has already begun making headway.
