none of the eBook retailers will sell a PDF to consumers.

But I would add to this by noting that
none of the big western
retailers allow
ebook downloads to the region, making distribution that much harder for publishers, and finding content that much harder for readers.
While
none of the other
ebook retailers are invested in reviews the way Amazon is, they all have some sort
of button to add a review.
However most
retailers don't yet accept enhanced
ebooks (that is, those with added audio, video, and / or scripting) yet, and even those that do are very picky about the kinds
of data that can be collected and sent (in fact, they currently allow
none of the latter — the scripts are allowed to pull data in from the Internet or keep it within the book itself but can not transmit to anyone but the
retailer).
