Facebook and Twitter have strong book
communities, especially with women, so your time might be better spent there if you're a fiction
author or a
nonfiction author marketing to women book lovers.
Media coverage for
nonfiction works is slightly more likely, even in the self - published world, but that depends on the timeliness of the subject matter and the
author's notoriety, but even then I'd still recommend starting smaller with local publications such as
community newspapers.
Few have given as much inspiration and service to the
author and
nonfiction publishing

The
Nonfiction Writers Conference is hosted by the
Nonfiction Authors Association, a vibrant and content - rich educational
community for experienced and aspiring writers to connect, exchange ideas, and learn about writing, publishing, promoting and monetizing
nonfiction books.
The fact is that
nonfiction authors have long been a neglected
community.
For
nonfiction authors with a specific expertise, being out there in the
community that has interest in that expertise will most likely be effective in selling their book.

This is an extension of the articles I've written to try to show
nonfiction authors how they can bring more people to their website or blog to become part of their
community, to support their ongoing work, and to buy books or other products related to the books they publish.
But for the majority of
nonfiction authors, there are more benefits in building a platform and becoming known within a
community for a particular subject matter, given that the risk presented by idea theft is quite small.
