What would bridge the distance between two strangers if
not a common interest in
Hogwarts scholarship?
An entire underground -LCB- Dumbledore's -RCB- army of
Hogwarts students believes he can and are willing to put their lives on the line,
not only to protect Harry, but to fight back against the evil that wants to destroy them and their school.
This culminates, of course, with an all - out siege of
Hogwarts, which the series has been teasing for the last few movies and it doesn't disappoint.
In this movie's climactic scene, as Harry and Voldemort face off amid the rubble of war - torn
Hogwarts, there are
not one but two long moments in which we see Harry's powers, represented by a greenish bolt of light, do battle with Voldemort's, a yellowish bolt.
Deathly Hallows, Pt. 2 is
not entirely action, though; there are plenty of brief pauses — pauses to consider important choices; pauses to see the effects of war [if
Hogwarts looks like a bombed out London cathedral from WWII, it's probably
not a coincidence]; pauses to mourn the dead, and finally, a pause to just enjoy the possibilities that open up after good vanquishes evil [what?
Not surprisingly, the final film ends with a coda set on King's Cross station 19 years later, as the grown - up Harry, Ron and Hermione send their own children off to board at
Hogwarts.
Two things
not so well explained are the inclusion of Professor Dumbledore's brother, Aberforth, who protects the Trio and their
Hogwarts friends and has conversations with Harry as if they've been in communication through the whole series.
Of course, Harry isn't hiding at all, but is instead still busy trying to track down and destroy the remaining Horcruxes containing the pieces of Voldemort's soul, which takes him on a quest alongside Ron (Rupert Grint) and Hermione (Emma Watson) through the vaults of Gringotts Bank and eventually back to
Hogwarts itself, where a massive battle is taking place between Voldemort's Death Eaters and the teachers and students at the school.
Rumor has it that the dreaded Lord Voldemort has returned, but Minister for Magic Cornelius Fudge (Robert Hardy) isn't so sure what to make of all the hearsay currently floating around the campus of
Hogwarts.
At
Hogwarts, Harry quickly makes new friends and begins piecing together the mystery of his parents» deaths, which appear
not to have been accidental after all.
Then again, maybe some of you have come to
Hogwarts in possession of abilities so formidable that you feel confident enough to
not pay attention!..
This is
not an action role and those expecting a
Hogwarts spectacle will be disappointed.
Michael Gambon, through no fault of his own, does
not have the gravitas the late Richard Harris brought to the role of
Hogwarts headmaster Professor Dumbledore.
Whether intentional or
not, the entire look of Order is dark and ramshackle: I wondered why the glorious red
Hogwarts Express was now deposited in the middle of a dusty, dirty inlet of the forest instead of a proper station.
Genuinely scary and menacing — though I confess I did
not entirely understand his motivations for wanting to annihilate the population of
Hogwarts / Harry in particular.
The ministry is worried that
Hogwarts presents a security risk, and so it prevents it from pursuing military - like training,
not realizing that Lord Voldemort is back and preparing for an attack.
While the crazy creatures are the highlight of the movie, they're
not enough to recapture the magic of Harry's adventures at
Hogwarts.
Rowling, who also wrote the script, nimbly lays out her world, but that world isn't nearly as rich as the world of
Hogwarts.
«Fantastic Beasts» wouldn't be the first time the films flashed back to his (relative) youth; «Harry Potter and the Half - Blood Prince» also showed some of the character's earlier years, including the day he recruited a young Tom Riddle to
Hogwarts.
The movie opens
not with a scene from the book or a beauty shot of
Hogwarts but with a moment of the film's own invention: Harry hidden under his covers at the Dursleys» house, practicing lumos maximus, his glowing wand illuminating the room.
It's set in the wizarding world and boasts creatures and characters both new and familiar to Potter but is
not a direct prequel to the current stories, instead set 70 years before Harry sets foot in
Hogwarts.

Dumbledore (Gambon, The Good Shepherd) manages to save the day, but Harry's despondency leads him further away from comfort with his friends and make - shift family at
Hogwarts, especially as they aren't really taking to his cries that the dreaded Voldemort (Fiennes, Wallace and Gromit) is orchestrating something nefarious.
Once again living with with his cranky foster parents, Harry is met by a strange creature named Dobby that warns him
not to go back to
Hogwarts.
Not listening to Dobby, Harry leaves his house with help from Ron Weasley (and two of his brothers), and they all go back to
Hogwarts.
Sure, we want to revel in Diagon Alley, but we're thirty minutes in and haven't even seen
Hogwarts yet.
LMD: We hadn't the chance to speak at the theatrical release of the film, but I must ask what your inspiration was behind the pre-credits sequence which recaps Voldemort stealing the Elder Wand from Dumbledore's grave, then centers on haunting images of Professor Snape in the turrets overlooking
Hogwarts.
With Steve Kloves (Wonder Boys, The Fabulous Baker Boys) returning as the screenwriter after skipping the last film, the more serious tone is interspersed with the lighter moments of teen romance, though these soap opera antics may seem tedious to those who don't care much about the dalliances of the
Hogwarts students, particularly in how much screen time is given to it in place of the larger storyline that could have used a greater sense of build up.

Hogwarts with Ron and Hermione to find and destroy Voldemort's remaining Horcruxes, leading to the inevitable battle between the Boy Who Lived and He - Who - Must -
Not - Be-Named.
Also, in a change of pace, this installment doesn't track another school year at
Hogwarts or dispose of another Defense Against the Dark Arts instructor.
The game is afoot before Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) even enters
Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for his fourth year, because the wicked forces of Lord Voldemort have
not paused for a summer vacation.
