The stakeholder group discusses the pros and cons of changing state laws to increase fines and penalties for
not altering pets.
Spay / Neuter will
not alter your pet's basic personality.
One of the large humane organizations, FiXiT, wanted to do a comprehensive study on why pet owners do or do
not alter their pets and what it takes to get them to do so.
Spaying or neutering your pet will
not alter the pet's training or its ability to work or hunt.
In a survey by the Humane Society of the United States, 80 percent of pet owners stated that high price was the reason they did
not alter their pet.
According to this research, the three most common reasons people haven't altered their pets is:

I know SO many people who do
nt have their
pets (mostly males)
altered because they want them to have a litter, or they think it's wrong to take a dog's manhood, or, and this one really shocked me, «How can you say you believe in animal rights and then deny them the most basic right of procreation?»
Additionally,
altered pets can
not contribute to the overpopulation of dogs.
Many people choose
not to
alter their
pets in spite of the many good reasons to do so.
Minimizing intake includes things like low - cost spay / neuter clinics, targeted spay / neuter outreach in poor communities and minimizing laws that cause animals to be removed from homes unnecessarily because they are certain breeds of dogs,
not altered, or over the
pet limit.
Mobile spay / neuter vehicles are fabulous, they get the services out to communities that would otherwise
not be able to
alter their
pets.
With the low - income spay / neuter program the cost of these surgical procedures is no excuse for
not having a
pet altered.
Cancer is life
altering to all parties involved, but the good news is that
pets either just don't feel well or can be completely unaware they have the disease.
Redirecting funds to no cost and low cost spay / neutering programs, and education programs for the public on the value of
altering their
pet so as
not to add to what amounts to an epidemic of mass killing — that is what lowers headcount.
This provides a permanent, positive identification which can
not be lost,
altered, or intentionally removed — making it a safe, simple, and inexpensive way to protect your
pet against loss or theft.
They are usually accompanied by only mild or moderate disruption of daily behavior patterns, which do

Overall, the question to ask yourself about
altering your
pet is
not IF, but WHEN.

not altering family
pets, backyard breeding, and puppy mills.
Licenses for

pet isn't fixed yet, (what are you waiting for?)

pets altered, and it could easily allow exemptions for rare breeds.
I do endorse mandatory spay / neuter at the public shelter level - as in a
pet does
not leave a public shelter unless it has been
altered.
The fact that
altering an immature animal is
not good in the long run for the animal is being suggested, theorized and being further reaserched... you may wish to research this yourself if you are a breeder and have your
pets sold
altered once they are sexually mature.
The HSWC assists qualified individuals who can
not afford the full cost of
altering their
pets.
What do you do if, when noticing that your
pet is a little pudgy, you've

The Humane Society of Warren County partners with Anicira Veterinary Center in Harrisonburg, Virginia, to offer a low cost spay / neuter option to residents who could
not otherwise afford to have their
