tomato based sauce, in Kansas its pulled pork drenched in a super sweet, dark colored molasses based sauce, in North Carolina its pulled pork in a shockingly sour vinegar based sauce, and in Alabama... well in Alabama they live under the delusion that the best BBQ in the world comes in the form of a flat, dry, piece of
plain pork on a bun paired with a mystery sauce in a squeeze bottle... I kid you
not, they really think its great.

not sweetened) 1 heaping teaspoon coarse sea salt 2 teaspoons garam masala 1 teaspoon dried fenugreek leaves (kasoori methi), lightly crushed to release flavor 1 teaspoon red chile powder 2 tablespoons oil (I use grapeseed) 1/2 teaspoon asafoetida (hing - optional) 1 teaspoon cumin seeds 1 teaspoon turmeric powder 1 2 - inch cinnamon stick 2 green cardamom pods (slightly crushed) 2 whole cloves 1/2 cup water 14 oz.
Of course, if someone could
not find the
tomatoes with medium green chiles they could get a small can of green chiles to go with their can of
plain diced
tomatoes.
I had
plain tomato sauce for it, but couldn't find the second 8 oz can so I used Ragu roasted red pepper spaghetti sauce.
If you can't find
plain tomato sauce, pureed
tomatoes would work.
It's just a sandwich, on
plain old whole wheat bread, piled just high enough (but
not too high) with just the basics — peppery fresh basil, perfectly ripe end - of - summer
tomatoes, creamy avocado, just a few ever - so - thinly sliced onions, a thin swipe of mayo and a few generous grinds of sea salt and black pepper.
Didn't have fire roasted
tomatoes, used diced can
plain.
I love rice cooked in
tomatoes as well, but my family prefers it
plain so I don't experiment much with rice dishes.
To be honest, I am
not really a «salad» person, the healthy ones at least — I can think of nothing better than taking a
plain salad and adding a whole heap of
not so healthy additions; maybe
tomatoes, avocado, capers, olives, cheese (s!)
If you can't get the crushed
tomatoes with basil, you can use
plain crushed
tomatoes and add 2T chopped fresh basil OR 2 tsp dried basil.
I keep eating
plain tomato sandwiches with a little homemade spread thinking there can't be anything better!
Also now that I'm
not in Texas anymore
tomatoes with chipotle are impossible to find so instead I just used
plain fire roasted
tomatoes and a half a can of chipotles in adobo.

salad isn't just
plain lettuce with some chopped up cucumber,
tomatoes, or carrots — salad can be much more than this.
(We had a smoked pepper cheddar that blended well; we had
plain tomatoes but
not tomatoes with chilies, so I added fresh cilantro and jalapeno to the blender mix.)
