Okay I need to start this post with a very clear caveat: We can not paint our cabinets, and we can
not stain our cabinets.

NOT prime my red mahogany kitchen
cabinets as they had a really good finish over the
stain.

stained but the chairs I used black wax to enhance the flowers on back of chairs china
cabinet has as well but going to use everyday as dining kitchen table is there a sealer that I can use for sure that won't yellow I'm scared to try

If, based on your circumstances, it doesn't make sense to pour extra money into cabinetry, you might try
staining the
cabinets.
If your kitchen
cabinets aren't contemporary, consider
staining the wood or painting them.
Bright, bold colors, outdated furniture and
stained carpet can be extremely off - putting when you are viewing a home but try to remember that wall color, carpet, and
cabinets are easy to change while a home's location and lot size aren't up for negotiation.
I've had a few situations (our old bar
cabinets for one) where I
stained over an existing finish and it didn't wear well (yes, it was topcoated).
It was a real shocker for me, he is usually very traditional (he has always held a strong belief that wood should
NOT be painted, only
stained)... I have always loved painted furniture,
cabinets, anything really... this gives me hope that maybe he won't insist on
stained wood
cabinets when we get ready to redo the kitchen!
We just moved this summer and the
cabinets have been painted white, but the girl at the stoneyard talked us out of carrera saying that it was really a matter of «when»
not «if» we'd get
stains and etching.

not pleased with the
stain or finish, we are a great solution.

cabinets black but I haven't shown the reveal yet.
You see, when your
cabinets are
stained, you don't notice all of the gaps but I promise... when you paint them they will stick out everywhere!

My hubby and I are trying to decide on a granite that works with our dark
cabinets because right now we don't want to paint them yet, maybe
stain them to refresh them.
I'm glad we
stained the
cabinet so it blends into the keg and doesn't try to stand out from it.

With
cabinets - depending on the age of them and the style - you may want to do a test on one regarding coverage and verify that the
stain does
not bleed through.
The primer I used didn't seal out the
stain that was previously on my
cabinets, and I have some bleed through.
Since it is a space in which function is the # 1 priority we made sure we chose dark grout to
not show dirt /
stains, enough
cabinet space to store the ironing board, a hanging rod to dry the delicates, etc..
The oil base primer keeps the
cabinets from yellowing later on because it seals in the old color /
stain color and lessens the risk of the paint chipping off later.You don't «have to» prime with chalk paint, but I would
not recommend skipping oil base primer when painting kitchen
cabinets.
Just love the pendant lights (don't think I've ever seen them) and the contrast between the
stained island and white
cabinets is beautiful!
She spent a LOT of money on the renovation, yet it looks awful because she didn't replace her very tired, very dated, very cheap
stained cabinets.
This isn't something I recommend for «used»
cabinets —
stains can be tricky and going over surfaces that have ANY kind of wear — be it from weather elements, human touch, or every day use — can be a challenge, resulting in an uneven finish thats impossible to fix...
