I am dying to try this out but really don't want to use xanthan gum for so many reasons... I've read that you can sub it for guar gum or a mixture of guar gum + locust bean gum... I've
not used either of these ingredients and am wondering if you have any input as I understand the pivotal role the xanthan gum is playing here.
I didn't use some of the ingredients like I replaced Basil for the Thyme which I didn't have, and coconut flour I didn't have.

of flours that I don't have but yours is nice and simple and all the
ingredients are staples in my pantry P.S Your tea set is so pretty.
So you could go the traditional route and
use gelatin and cornstarch to make these, but I can't tell you how much you would need
of each, as I've never tried the recipe with those
ingredients.
I made these today but had to substitute a few
ingredients as I didn't have everything — I
used dried prunes instead
of dates, chopped almonds and hazelnuts instead
of the sunflower seeds and vegetable oil instead
of coconut oil.
I didn't have a few
of the
ingredients (parsnip & celery) but i
used potato and orange peppers and
of course the carrots and it still came out amazing.
I take out some
ingredients I can't
use, but almost all
of them are good for me.
You know I'm
not one to preach so I won't go on and on about the reasons
not to
use certain brands but I thought it was worth noting that lots
of popular companies
use concentrated
ingredients, which I'd never thought about before.
But am unsure what exact
ingredients to get for other recipes as I have been shopping around but
not having any luck finding the right maple syrup, vanilla or cacao powder and date syrup... what type
of maple syrup shall I buy (is organic ok to
use?).
I've been intrigued by your site and want to try a lot
of your recipes but many
use this
ingredient - would you say it would be safe to just skip it oftentimes or, would you be able to suggest some good substitutions so I'm
not losing too much on flavor?

I live in England and have
not heard
of some
of the staple
ingredients you often
use e.g. cacao powder, tahini and acai in your smoothies.
The word healthy is
used quite a few times in this article, just because you
use natural
ingredients, does
not mean this is healthy, you
use almost a whole bottle
of maple syrup which is pure sugar!
I halve the
ingredients as I only cook for two and even though I usually lack one or two
of the veggies (I've replaced chickpeas with lentils before and have completely left out spinach and / or aubergine once or twice as well) the flavor is always spot on and
not too spicy for me (probably because I
use almost the full amount
of sweet potatoes....
I only
used 1/3
of the
ingredients listed as I wanted to see how it went (and didn't have that many bananas...) but I calculated it all down to a 1/3.
I did substiute the Almond milk for coconut milk and
used organic raw honey instead
of date syrup as i did
nt have the other
ingredients in.
Also, I really want to start
using cleaner products that don't contain a lot
of chemicals, but wholesome plant based
ingredients.
I couldn't find sunflower seeds, so just went with the recipe as posted (substituted some
of more expensive
ingredients — honey for maple syrup, different type
of date), but will
use suggestion
of upping oats next time to see how it goes.
Hi Ella, I was running low on
ingredients so instead
of using almonds I
used activated pumpkin seeds, I replaced cacao with natural peanut butter and I added some cinnamon and vanilla and I didn't add maple syrup.
I've got all those
ingredients in but just
not the miso paste...... is there anything I could
use instead just until I can get some
of the miso?
I have just cooked the blueberry muffins as you say they are like a liquid batter but they haven't turned into muffins they are just blueberry slop in bottom
of muffin tins.I don't see how these can turn into muffins when they are just pure liquid and there is nothing in the recipe to bind them together.The only different
ingredient I
used was rice milk as didn't have almond milk and actually put less maple syrup in as didn't have full amount so the recipe should have been even runnier.Am feeling a bit frustrated as the
ingredients aren't cheap.
Shouldn't the chocolate
ingredients be warmed and melted
using a double boiler instead
of direct heat?

use only cashews (no zucchini) so because

I didn't need to
use any additional water, but if your dates are on the drier side, you might need a bit
of water to help all the
ingredients stick together.
Forgot to buy coconut milk so
used greek yogurt instead and grated apple instead
of apple sauce and corn starch for arrowroot flour (ok, I didn't have a few

Watch out for shampoos that include any
of those grain - based oils, or oat - based
ingredients, as the oats they
use may

so we had some hazelnuts we blended in the vitamix with filtered water to the point the vitamix got warm and filtered out the fiber with a clean handkerchief (in hindsight i could
of not filtered it but i like the filtered nut milk with coffee) and mixed together, but it all lacked fiber, so we
used muesli (the perfect
ingredient) to bulk up the mixture and
used brown sugar to sweeten with all the other
ingredients (i know the s word but i'm eating with a non-plant based eater).
There seem to be several
ingredients used in various recipes that I doubt I will be able to find but that is
not the fault
of the author.
I did
use a little less
of the spicy
ingredients since we aren't big on spicy.
They say to make sure you
use a wing sauce that has clean
ingredients, because some
of the bigger brands often sneak unwanted preservatives and chemicals into their sauces, and these just aren't necessary.
Ingredients for broth: 1 uncooked whole turkey leg or large turkey thigh / 4 cups chicken or turkey broth plus a cup or two
of cold water (you'll need extra water if you aren't
using a pressure cooker due to evaporation while cooking / 1/2 large onion, peeled / 2 large carrots, quartered / 2 stalks
of celery, cut in half / several sprigs
of thyme / 1 bay leaf / 1 T black peppercorns / a couple
of leeks, halved, if you have them.
I have made this dozens
of times, but I just tried something new — omitted the spices and bourbon,
used one banana and some overripe strawberries (blitzed all the wet
ingredients in a blender because I didn't want wet, heavy strawberry chunks dragging me down!)
