Perhaps the best two pieces I've come across are from the Newark Star - Ledger's Tom Moran including an opinion piece
on where things stand that

Often people who enjoy reading a particular
book will post a

on sites like Amazon, Goodreads or Facebook, or even write a

note, I saw a Twitter by an author today, proudly recommending the services of a Kindle
book promotion service which promises to give authors»
books thirty online four - star / five - star
reviews.
But
note that readers are less likely to take a chance
on a
book with no
reviews or with a poor cover at the $ 3.99 price point.

I thought of that earlier this year when I
reviewed a biography by Amy Houts of TV personality Rachel Maddow (Rachel Maddow: Primetime Political Commentator), whose life as an out lesbian — I
noted in the
review — has been distinguished by a number of «firsts»: she was one of only two openly gay students in her freshman class at Stanford; the first openly gay recipient of the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship; and the first openly gay person to host a prime - time news show
on TV — a terrific role model, in short, for LGBTQ kids, who, historically, have had too few such in
books to read.

notes, share recommendations through the BlackBerry framework, read

On the other hand, a professional
book review earned through
book publicity efforts from a
noted source — established magazines and newspapers, trusted bloggers,
review services — command credibility from the outset and can be used in ways consumer
reviews can not.
You can also post your

notes highlighted from your
book for other friends to see and comment
on it.
However, just a quick
note that if you actually unpublish
books published via Smashwords, you'll lose those
reviews on the other sites.
