In fact,
the number of Backlight LEDs has roughly doubled (from 36 to an estimated 72 to 82), so the Backlight power has approximately doubled.

The Kindle Oasis will feature a 300ppi screen, matching the Kindle Voyage in terms
of sharpness and text clarity, and apparently there's been a 60 percent increase in the
number of LEDs inside, so the
backlighting should be even more uniform when you're reading in the dark.
It seems that they have a
number of six inch models with Triton 2 and
Backlight technology available to show off to their regular customers.
So we're not sure if it has the
backlighting that Wilson hated so much in the PRS - 700, but seeing as the model
numbers are lower, we're guessing that this will hit at somewhere below the $ 400 price tag
of Sony's higher model.
It's also bumped up the
number of LED
backlights from 10 to 12, which should make for a clearer reading experience, and there's now an ambient light sensor that can adjust the screen brightness to your environment.
Even the high contrast ratio is the result
of an extremely bright
backlight rather than inky blacks, so images lacked the depth the raw
numbers suggest.
Sony's new
backlight system works by increasing the
number of LED
backlights in use by several times (Sony won't say how many are in use, but it's apparently a lot), adding individual control to each and every LED in use and finely focusing the light to a very tight set
of pixels.
