We organize a statewide conference in odd
numbered years; organize a statewide seminar in even
numbered years; support research in gifted education; support specialized professional preparation for
educators of the gifted; and
recognize outstanding
educators for their contributions to gifted learners.
Troy has delivered his
Number Drummer program to thousands
of students and
educators across the U.S., and he has been
recognized and awarded by Yale University for his innovative teaching approach.
However, most
of these tests are multiple choice, standardized measures
of achievement, which have had a
number of unintended consequences, including: narrowing
of the academic curriculum and experiences
of students (especially in schools serving our most school - dependent children); a focus on
recognizing right answers to lower - level questions rather than on developing higher - order thinking, reasoning, and performance skills; and growing dissatisfaction among parents and
educators with the school experience.
