number of practicing lawyers in the U.S., finding a lawyer for your legal needs is no easy task.

Recent statistics from the American Bar Association (ABA) indicate that
the number of practicing lawyers in the United States has more than tripled since 1977.

Hopefully a smaller number of applicants will sufficiently impact the number of practitioners in the coming years to help restore the balance between

practices within a limited
number of large law firms has contributed to the under - representation
of minority
lawyers before the high court.
The general practitioner is disappearing and the per capita

practice has been decreasing for decades.

The figures I've seen show that there are over 1 million
lawyers in the United States and even accounting for those who are retired, in academia or judgeships, 550,770 seems on the low side for the
number of currently
practicing attorneys.

number of firms, size
of firms, etc..
The
number of lawyers who describe their
practice as a «virtual» law
practice declined this year to 5 percent, from 7 percent the year before, according to the 2013 ABA Legal Technology Survey Report.
The merger will also make Norton Rose Group one
of the five largest international legal
practices by
number of lawyers, with more than 2,900
lawyers in 43 offices throughout Europe, Asia Pacific, Canada, Africa, Central Asia, the Middle East and Latin America.
Don't forget that Chief Judge Lippman recently instituted a requirement in New York that new
lawyers must complete 50 hours
of pro bono representation before being admitted to
practice law, regardless
of the
number of years they attend school.
In addition to asking
lawyers whether they consider their
practices virtual, the survey also asked whether they use virtual office services, which it defined as services that provide a fixed mailing address or phone
number together with on - demand use
of office space and receptionists.
Hoping to expand their reach or trying to position
lawyers as thought leaders in their
practice areas, a
number of large law firms are now actively producing content and distributing it through social media.

Where small firm
lawyers who are overwhelmed by administrative tasks would not need to do them: They could join a franchise, which, benefitting from external investment, would have the resources to develop and offer to a large
number of small firms streamlined IT infrastructure, billing, marketing and file management, advertising, and a branded name and logo, freeing the
lawyers to
practice law.
In a 2007 report, Educating
Lawyers: Preparation for the Profession
of Law (Carnegie Report), the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement
of Teaching reported on a
number of gaps in legal education and set out a series
of recommendations for bridging those gaps.2 Among the authors» findings was the «increasingly urgent need to bridge the gap between analytical and practical knowledge...» 3 The resulting recommendation that the teaching
of legal doctrine be integrated beyond «case - dialogue courses» and into courses that focus on more practical skills acknowledged that this idea was «building on the work already underway in several law schools...» 4 One
of the schools where the teaching
of legal analysis has long been integrated into
practice - focused courses is the University
of Maryland School
of Law (Maryland).

Rather than hear from one speaker for an hour, the participants got to hear and learn from a
