To prevent you from becoming overpowered by simply tracking down items, the game smartly locks a number of skills away until you complete a set
number of story missions.
Maybe the halving of
the number of story missions, and shoehorning in drop - in drop - out co-op are causes for concern but they just don't hamper the game as much as I wish they did.
Their fears of restricted areas on a limited number of planets came to fruition, and when they realised that the last Beta contained almost half the game's content in the full game, heads turned towards Bungie, questioning their decision to release the game with a limited

story missions, a few small open world segments, and some more linear
missions that ended in pitched boss battles.
In addition to the game's
story driven chapters, there are also a
number of side
missions to take on.
What's more, in addition to the core
story missions, Joe's Adventure opens up a
number of side quests players can embark on.
You are first sent to visit Devrim Kay who gives you
story missions on the planet, but between
missions you can freely explore the planet and take part in a
number of activities, even if you have travelled to later planets.
You'll be frequenting the same dungeons quite often, whether its for the next
story mission, some new Sealbooks to sell for a quick bit
of cash, or the various sidequests that involve gathering up particular goods or sealing away a certain
number of enemy beasts.
Players looking for a grand
story ripped from the pages
of Borderlands will want to look elsewhere, as the
missions themselves feel pretty much standalone, only held together slightly by the premise that a bad dude is trying to destroy the last star in the galaxy and characters across a
number of different factions have united to stop him.
So in this world are your
story missions which are clearly marked but there are also a
number of side
missions to do for other people.
Even when I tried following the
story missions it was the same, hit a certain
number of kills or collecting and your done.
Destiny 2 is set to be a much larger game, not just in terms
of the
number of missions but also the amount
of activities to do outside
of the core
story.
It will launch with two primary gameplay modes, World
of Demons is the Way
of the Warrior
story mode, where players tackle a
number of missions and narrative beats as the Samurai and his party take on the demonic presence in the land, and the Way
of the Demon mode which offers daily challenges and timed
missions to gain new weapons and minions.
Outside
of the
story missions, there are some challenges to take on as well as a
number of collectibles to find hidden in the levels.
In fact, you'll need to do work outside
of the
story missions because part
of your advancement to Don will depend on how many businesses you can bring under the family's «protection» and the
number of illegal rackets you control.
Add to that the sheer
number of things to do (skill rankings, outfits, primary
story missions, mini games, bounty quests, etc) and amazingly entertaining ambient behavior (watching people get mauled from their horses by mountain lions, hearing the prostitutes around town say things like, «I hate to see a dry pecker» and trying to line - up the perfect sniper shot when suddenly being attacked by a Grizzly...) and you had a game that truly defines an era.
The game is coming out in the middle
of September 2015 and will be chock full
of top - notch graphics, upgradable weapons
of various calibers and sizes, new types
of deadly enemies, and most
of all, it will offer a complex and enticing
story supplemented by a
number of individual
missions.
The fact there are a
number of paths to progress the main
story, and how many
of the side
missions weave in and out
of it, helps achieve this too.
