JUDGE: It is recommended that,
as a first consideration, the judge be a qualified breeder of retrievers with at least 10 years experience in their breed and have attended at least two
obedience trials and two field events with water tests.
These events, which draw over three million entries annually, include dog shows and tests of instinct and trainability, such
as obedience trials, Canine Good Citizen tests, field

trials, lure coursing, rally, hunting tests, herding
trials, tracking tests, coonhound and earthdog events.
The primary «job» for this breed will always be
as a herding dog; however, other jobs include: bomb detection, narcotics detection, agility competitor, Frisbee
trial competitor, search and rescue work, Fly ball participation, competitive

as seeing eye dogs and general assistance dogs for the handicapped.
During that same time I competed heavily in

Trial», CD, CDX, UD, Dog World Awards, and putting many titles on my own dogs

It is fair to say that almost any other canine activity (such

obedience) requires the dog to first understand communication with its handler through basic
obedience commands.
