The Australasian Institute of Judicial Administration's Guide to Judicial Conduct recognises the presence of humour,
commenting that «[t] he trial of an action, whether civil or criminal, is a serious matter but that does not
mean that
occasional humour is out of place in a courtroom, provided that it does not embarrass a party or witness».
