«If there's missing pieces to those forecasts based on unknown
physics of the
ocean, you can't
make good decisions,» said Travis Miles, one of the researchers.
Leinen easily ticks off a host of areas, from analyzing the complex mixtures of physical processes and chemical reactions in the atmosphere and the
ocean to characterizing earthquakes, in which geoscientists have
made important contributions to
physics and chemistry.
I wasn't thinking about a basin - wide phenomenon, as that doesn't
make sense from the standpoint of
ocean physics (as several people have pointed out), but rather a localized effect.
Physical chemistry is a combination of chemistry and
physics, it is fine that you derived the equation, but it relates to thermodynamics just the same; chemists
make those lasers work, those DVD's play, and I have taken calculus
physics, modern
physics, (multi variable calculus
physics) which means technically I too have a degree in
physics, but my focus has been chemistry, biology, and I took a few graduate courses dealing with meteorology,
ocean dynamics, geology, atmospheric science and my undergraduate courses were filled with earth science related material and after all the math needed for Pchem engineering mathematics is not difficult nor is graduate
physics:) so the derivation you just
made is discussed in math classes before, even calculus one, so I am not sure what you are trying to prove.
Trenberth argues that since science /
physics has already established the human influence on climate,
oceans, etc. (and Curry would not say otherwise) it
makes more sense for Curry to have to show that there is no influence on water vapor and precipitation (i.e., intensification of storm activity / heavy precipitation) than to show that there is, because of basic
physics / physical systems / physical relationships that constitute the global climate cycle.
Anyway, as I
make the point here, The Greenhouse Effect is non-existant regardless of this mangling of real world
physics, the comic cartoon of shortwave in and longwave out is stupid enough in claiming «that visible light heats
ocean and lands and the heat direct from the Sun, thermal infrared, doesn't reach the Earth's surface and doesn't play any part in heating land and
ocean», but, this warmist comic cartoon energy budget misses out the whole of the Water Cycle!
I believe the lower bound is being
made lower because of
physics modeling that says that the
ocean surface temperature will take forever to fully respond to the forcing.
He says the intense public interest
made clear to him the need to find ways to apply the esoteric
physics of atmosphere and
oceans so we can be better prepared for the next extreme event.
