cheese I purchased from Whole Foods yesterday during the EARTHQUAKE (thought shelves were going to fall on me, though there are worse places to be buried than Whole Foods).
Two nights later, I used the above ^ chili leftovers, freshly chopped veggies and

I found it a little bland till I added a 1/2 cup

So, I took a gander inside my fridge and saw three

First
of all, I am hoping you can give me a recommendation on a good non-dairy
cheese to use besides
Daiya.
I am not a fan
of Daiya yet since I'm a new vegan I have not had a chance to taste any other
cheese.
For the filling, I mix 580g
Daiya plain cream
cheese with 60g vanilla vegan protein powder and 2 cups
of unsweetened almond milk, then pour it over the crust.
As a new vegan, non-dairy
cheeses didn't do much for me but after a few months
of having little bits here and there, the flavour
of Daiya really began to grow on me.
All
cheeses are vegetarian with the exception
of Daiya vegan
cheese.
Non-dairy
cheese (optional, but strongly encouraged - I used a mix
of Daiya chedder and mozzarella shreds)
I use
Daiya in place
of cheese.

The only thing to keep in mind is that
Daiya cheese offers a moderate amount
of sodium per serving (250 milligrams per ounce, approximately fifty percent more than the same amount
of cheddar
cheese) and significantly less protein than dairy or soy - based
cheeses (1 to 1.5 grams per ounce, as opposed to 7 grams).
Moderate amounts
of Daiya vegan
cheese (made with coconut oil, palm oil, etc.) might be alright for the same reason, inclusion
of plant fiber.
I followed the recipe exactly, aside from the fact that I used dairy - free alternatives (earth balance butter (use less), and
daiya cream
cheese), as well as a flax egg instead
of a real egg, and they turned out great!

If you ever plan to go vegan, I would recommend Boca or
Daiya for that because Morningstar uses
cheese and eggs in a lot
of their products.
