student defrauded the
federal government
of more than $ 1 million in financial
aid for
at least five years, according to U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara.
At a meeting on Monday evening, Angela Merkel and leaders
of her party's coalition partners agreed that the
federal government will take over the full cost
of the country's financial
aid program for university
students — which will amount to a $ 1.2 billion savings for state budgets each year.
According to the College Board,
students with annual family incomes under $ 65,000 received enough grant
aid to cover the entire cost
of tuition
at community colleges in 2011 12 (the most recent
federal data available).
