of natural forests and community rights, especially communities living close to and in forest ecosystems in sub-Saharan Africa and the Congo Basin Rainforest Ecosystem.

I actually got started in the broader field
of sustainability ethics and worked at the United Nations under the Clinton administration as the program manager for United Nations organizations at the
Environmental Protection Agency Office
of International Policy on all the Rio Earth Summit issues, namely Agenda 21, the Biodiversity Convention, the UNFCCC, the Forests agreements, and Toxic Substances.
International environmental policy is dominated by the political and economic interests
of large and wealthy nations.
Notably, the meeting, organized by a coalition called Avoided Deforestation Partners (an offshoot
of the Center for
International Policy), also saw some
environmental campaigners who had long opposed the inclusion
of forests in carbon markets strongly endorsing the idea.

The surge
of convention attendees in and out
of Cleveland's
international airport didn't do much for the environment, in a sense nicely reflecting the heart
of the Republican platform's section on
environmental policy.
Otto Edenhoper, Co-Chairman
of the IPCC Working Group III, and a lead author
of the IPCC's Fourth Assessment Report, released in 2007, demonstrated his commitment to impartial scientific enquiry with his remarkable statement, «One has to free oneself from the illusion that
