The recent launch
of Jotun: Valhalla Edition on Nintendo Switch has given a small army of Switch owners the chance to discover (or re-discover!)
they reached out to other crowdfunded projects (Moon Hunters, Children of Zodiarcs, We Happy Few, and Ultimate Chicken Horse) to offer their backers free copies
of Jotun if they also backed Sundered in the first 24 hours.
Interestingly enough, console ports
of Jotun weren't originally part of Thunder Lotus Games» plan.
While there aren't a large number
of Jotun to fight, none of them are forgettable.
After the defeat
of each Jotun, you are returned to the hub world and are fed narrative exposition in the form of Thora's backstory regarding her family, history and personal thoughts.
If your engagement in the visual brilliance
of Jotun fades, so too will you motivation to continue playing it.

A PlayStation 4 copy
of Jotun: Valhalla Edition was graciously provided to us by the fine folks at Thunder Lotus Games.
Each of the Jotun is unique and offers up a different challenge, and thanks to the scale of the enemies, each battle feels absolutely epic.
Again, some of the backtracking could be frustrating and some players might be underwhelmed by the amount
of Jotun there are to take down (especially in comparison to similar boss - battling titles), but it doesn't stop Jotun: Valhalla Edition from being a worthy addition to anyone's Nintendo Switch library.
The most standout feature
of Jotun: Valhalla Edition is its visual design, which could easily be described as Disney-esque thanks to its beautiful, colourful hand - drawn style.
While Jotun arrived on the PC in 2015, it hit consoles in 2016 and that's where I experienced it in the form
of Jotun: Valhalla Edition (available on both the PS4 and Xbox One).
The art is also pretty incredible, and as I mentioned earlier, it's hand drawn art that evokes the classic animation styles, and does a fantastic job at bringing the world
of Jotun to life.
Sundered will bring together the best elements
of Jotun while at the same time centering around a metroidvania - style game.

Considering the competition, Axiom Verge, the Metroid inspired game did rather well to claim 3rd place but will it be able to hold onto the spot, when next week it will face competition from the likes
of Jotun: Valhalla Edition?

Thunder Lotus set a high bar in terms
of visual prowess with the studio's first title,
Jotun, and Sundered does not disappoint.
We have the Vikings tv series on History (my favorite show on cable), really cool indie games like The Banner Saga and
Jotun, the Minnesota Vikings are getting a new stadium and, at least, the people
of Minnesota will be able to go to the Super Bowl (yes, the Vikings are also my favorite football team... you can see my life starting to suck, can't you) and,
of course, all sorts
of metal featuring Vikings.
Jotun: Valhalla Edition for the Nintendo Switch ™ will be pre-purchasable as
of April 13th on the Nintendo eShop in North and South America, as
of April 18th in Europe, and April 19th in Japan.
Most notably,
Jotun features an insanely gorgeous hand - drawn art style that I just couldn't get enough
of.
While exploring the environments offers players a chance to gain new skills, increase their health by finding hidden golden apples from the tree
of Ithunn, and see some epic sights — like the forge that created Mjolnir, Ymir's skull, and more, the best part
of the game is
of course fighting the
Jotun.
I've already reviewed
Jotun: Valhalla Edition in the past and was a fan
of Thunder Lotus Games» stunning Norse adventure, but I couldn't resist blasting through it again on the Nintendo Switch.
I've always been a big fan
of games that focus on boss battles, so
Jotun: Valhalla Edition naturally appealed to me from the get go.
It's a good kind
of challenge though, with
Jotun: Valhalla Edition taking an almost Dark Souls - like approach (if you'll excuse the cliché) by forcing you to learn enemy's attack patterns and... well... «get good».
Speaking
of bosses, this is where
Jotun: Valhalla Edition shines the brightest.
It's a small nitpick when compared to
Jotun's greater whole, but it's a tweak that would cause players to invest more in their version
of Thora.
In a new trailer,
Jotun has revealed a new boss character whom players can expect to find at the end
of the Yggdrasil world.
Jotun is basically divided into two phases
of gameplay: stages and boss battles.
Since
Jotun was released on PC in 2015, there have been a handful
of games that have done impressive things with 2D...
Inspired by the mechanics
of The Legend
of Zelda and Dark Souls, the combat in
Jotun is fast - paced and organic.
After quitting his job in January 2014, Will Dubé and friends brought
Jotun to Kickstarter in July
of the same year.
Jotun's gameplay is a love letter to classic games such as The Legend
of Zelda.
