I am not following your meal plan but I am really relying on some
of your great new recipes, and I did pick up the
ketostix... which is really keeping me motivated....
Ketostix are good as «indicators»
of whether or not you are in ketosis (not always) but may not show the actual values.
Unfortunately, there is no way with
ketostix to determine which
of the above is at play.
Ketostix don't measure all types
of ketones produced by your body.
I do nt use
ketostix cause cant never find those in my country (im dominican), I started with 202 pounds and im already down to 194 (wich is crazy) I know that most
of the pounds I've lost is water loss.
Ketostix — I have had a lot
of trouble finding these in drug stores lately, so I get them from my favorite, Amazon.
If you measure your ketone levels (using
ketostix), they may get quite high due to the lack
of water but it doesn't mean you will be in deeper ketosis (
ketostix are not accurate).
While
Ketostix are ok for getting some sort
of indication every now and then.
The oldest method
of testing for ketosis is by using
Ketostix.
I turn those
ketostix a lovely shade
of purple, but just don't seem to be losing any weight.
Of course the fastest and most accurate way is to test your breath, pee on a
Ketostix or measure ketone levels in your blood.
So the
Ketostix, which are measuring the acetoacetate content in your urine only, will tell you after a while that you are not in a sufficient way
of Ketosis anymore - though you may still be in perfect ketosis.
If you are sticking long enough to a ketogenic diet the production
of the different types
of keton bodies will change: the serum and urine volume
of acetoacetate (the only ketone detected by
ketostix) is significantly reduced, according to Phinney and Volek, you will have more Hydroxybutyrate in your serum - and thereby in your urine.
I assume they have used a kind
of Keto strip,
Ketostix, and those are measuring acetoacetate only by a unique chemical reaction.
I did Atkins's Induction Mon - Thurs used
Ketostix before workout Friday morning and there was a trace
of Ketones.
You can check your ketone levels with the help
of a blood ketone and glucose testing meter or
ketostix.
One point I want to make about
Ketostix is that a lot
of people use them because they seem cheap (initially).

An occasional person will actually require a ketogenic state to achieve weight loss, i.e., complete elimination
of carbohydrates in order to metabolize fats, evidenced by the fruity breath odor
of ketones or urine dipstick testing positive with
Ketostix.
Regular monitoring
of the number
of carbs you are consuming and matching this to the
ketostix reading will let you determine your own level.
The best way to test if you're in a state
of ketosis is by using ketone urine testing strips, often referred to buy the brand name,
Ketostix.
