Depending on your manuscript, I may recommend one or more rounds of developmental editing followed by one or more rounds
of line editing.
I bought my copy for $ 1 in a used bookstore, and I love to use this style of prose to teach an essential skill to students — the art
of line editing.
The objective
of a line edit is to make your writing as polished and professional (and «invisible») as possible.
To me, critique partners are developmental editors — some have more experience than others, but when I'm swapping critiques with someone, we are (usually) doing an in - kind swap for developmental editing (sometimes it's more
of a line edit or copyedit, depending on need or skill of the person involved).
The purpose
of a line edit is not to comb your manuscript for errors — rather, a line edit focuses on the way you use language to communicate your story to the reader.
We deliver two versions
of line edits, one with all changes tracked and editor comments showing, and one with all comments deleted and changes accepted so you can see how it reads without distraction.
It also does not include the sentence - by - sentence editing
of a line edit.
