A: I'm very much a
reflection of what Canadians have told me, not just over the past year and a half but over the past years, past decades
of my childhood,
of having been a
teacher across the country, having met and chatted with Canadians
of every possible background.

of the disciples — a change in their outlook as they came to realize through further
reflection upon their dead and buried

of following in his footsteps?
Instead, I'm looking across the Great Schism to read the Lenten
reflections of Alexander Schmemann, an Orthodox priest and
teacher well known for his prolific writing on the liturgy.
My
reflections arose, as I have indicated, in part from formative books and
teachers, but they also grew out
of grappling with Scripture (one
of the lightning bolts here was the simple but profound insight
of realizing once again the ineradicable connection
of form and content — for instance, what is said in a parable can not be said in any other way), and with the complex business, endemic to academic theologians,
of, as Kierkegaard would put it, becoming a Christian (not in general or for someone else but in particular and for me).

teacher and whom we now know as Savior and Lord?»
