Important achievements have been done in the preparation and characterization
of: i) Gold nanoparticles stabilised through
thiol derivatised organic - and bio-molecules; ii) nanocomposite coatings for low friction and high wear resistance applications and iii) new nanostructured materials for hydrogen storage.
Studies
of both elderly subjects and cancer patients have found that the aging and disease related loss
of skeletal muscle mass, or sarcopenia, is significantly related to the oxidative shift in the plasma
thiol / disulfide redox status.
Changes in the
