Currently, more than half
of the European
Union's 28
member states do not have any screening mechanism in place at the national level.22 Meanwhile in in July 2017, Germany adopted an amendment to the German Foreign
Trade Regulation to allow the German government to screen and ultimately block a wider range
of foreign takeovers.23
