There actually exists an international guideline on expression of uncertainty — Guide to the expression
of uncertainty in measurement.
The Joint Committee for Guides in Metrology (JCGM), is an organization that prepared the «Guide to the expression
of uncertainty in measurement» (GUM) and the «International vocabulary of metrology — basic and general concepts and associated terms» (VIM).
ISO / IEC Guide 98 - 3:2008 is a reissue of the 1995 version of the Guide to the Expression
of Uncertainty in Measurement (GUM), with minor corrections.

There are
