The rapid cooling
of the lava flows, if that's indeed what caused the transient hot spots, may be due to the exceptionally effective heat - transferring capability
of the dense
venusian atmosphere, they add.
The oceans will boil away and the atmosphere will dry out as water vapor leaks into space, and temperatures will soar past 700 degrees Fahrenheit, all
of which will transform our planet into a
Venusian hell - scape choked with thick clouds
of sulfur and carbon dioxide.
Taylor says that the high levels
of sulphur dioxide in the
venusian upper atmosphere are also almost certainly due to recent volcanic eruptions.
The glory is a sensitive marker for conditions in the
Venusian clouds, which, made
of sulphuric acid and completely enveloping the planet, have long held a special fascination for planetary scientists.
Venus Express has also detected water molecules escaping into space, found concrete evidence for lightning in the

of the hot surface.
The hope is that this year's
Venusian transit will provide a benchmark for further efforts to uncover the properties

Keeping in mind the very low content
of water in the
Venusian atmosphere, it is not surprising to measure very low contents
of H2 and H (the latter always dominant) in the upper atmosphere (Keating et al. 1985).
Thus, it is plausible that changes to atmospheric ionization rates due to cosmic ray variability may affect the occurrence
of electrical phenomena in the
Venusian atmosphere (Nordheim et al. 2015) hence manifesting a relation between space weather and meteorological phenomena.
Venus has an active mantle, but the structure
of its crust and atmosphere prevent it from changing the
Venusian landscape very often.
As SEP events may produce very large enhancements in the ion production rate in the
Venusian upper and middle atmosphere, investigations
of space weather effects at Venus are relevant to future missions to the planet, particularly those carrying low - frequency radar instruments (Nordheim et al. 2015).
Positive detections
of radio wave emissions due to
Venusian lightning have been reported (Ksanfomaliti et al. 1979; Taylor et al. 1979; Russell et al. 2007).
While the exact mechanism for charging and for initiating lightning within the
Venusian clouds is not currently known (Yair 2012) it is nonetheless likely that cosmic ray ionization has an important role in this process as it is believed to be the primary source
of atmospheric ions at middle and low altitudes.
Kargel's estimate should be considered to be a lower limit on when the planet dried up because it did not include the effect
of clouds in the
Venusian atmosphere.
Regarding the search for extraterrestrial life, the one major habitable zone in the inner solar system that has not been sampled at all is the
Venusian cloud layer, which in terms
of temperature, pressure and gravity is the most Earthlike extraterrestrial environment in the solar system.
Detection
of tremolite, a mineral created in the presence
of water, could be used to ascertain how long any
Venusian oceans lasted as a habitat for Earth - type life over the past 4.6 billion years
of planetary history (more).
In 2004, Schulze - Makuch and his colleagues announced their speculations that such microbes may survive in
Venusian clouds with the help
of molecular rings
of sulphur to shelter from the Sun's ultraviolet (UV) radiation as Venus does not have a protective layer
of ozone in its atmosphere.
