More Game and Wario craziness was revealed at this morning \'s Nintendo Direct as some more
of Wario \'s friends and their games were introduced.
I for one am a huge fan
of the Wario Ware series.
My copy
of Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 runs fine on my old Game Boy, but I just couldn't get it to run from the SmartBoy.
Imagine a chase level where Mario races to save the princess from being carried away by Bowser, but play the level as Wario and instead you'll see Captain Syrup running away with a sack
of Wario's precious gold.
Mario got his mirrored - nemesis in the form
of Wario, so they decided they needed to come up with someone to be the evil side of the coin for Luigi.
What do you think
of Wario Land 2, and have you bought the game on the eShop?
«Splosion Man splendidly combines the muted cerebral elements
of the Wario Land series with the hyperkinetic action of Sonic the Hedgehog.
It's apparently a pretty good game, so I guess it's wise to go ahead and buy it if you want to play an interesting Game Boy Color game on 3DS and try out one
of Wario's lesser known adventures.
And so came the creation
of Wario, whose name seems to come from the Japanese adjective for bad, «warui» and «Mario,» literally meaning «bad Mario.»
Unfortunately, due to the general lack of interest in the Virtual Boy as a whole, the game is considered a sort of lost treasure, and without any similar hardware available, the possibility of a port or re-release
of Wario's Awazonian adventure remains dubious, at best.
Many signs point to a rumored Nintendo 3DS remake
of Wario Land which came form the same source who revealed the 3DS Warioware game that has been confirmed.
Nintendo has applied for the trademark
of Wario Land and its the second time they done this within the past year.
Unfortunately for him, that latest acquisition was alive, a sentient jewel that was capable of bringing the rest
of Wario's vast wealth to life, and splitting the castle into four worlds the greedy one would have to topple if he wanted his castle and treasure back the way it was.
The middle of the year would see fans of his greediness hit with a double - dose
of Wario wackiness.
It followed closely in the footsteps
of Wario Land II «s gameplay, most notably in the «indestructible» gameplay mechanic.
Plus, if you're interested in Wario's origins, feel free to check out my vintage 15 Years
of Wario article, written back when the game turned... well, 15, obviously.
Yet none
of the Wario Land games got the full music project treatment.
Similar examples to this include the well known case of Super Mario Bros 2 (where a much more interesting game called Doki Doki Panic was turned into a Mario title instead of the somewhat samey Lost Levels), and the less known case
of Wario World.
Nintendo has applied for the trademark
of Wario Land and its the second time they
The behavior of these enemies is unique: they are not able to move by themselves, but require the interaction
of Wario.
At long last, I've added the third and final part of my celebration of 15 Years
of Wario to the features portion of the website.
I've always felt that he would be much more accepted if he ever appears in one
of Wario's games, which would be a good way to add co-op to the Wario Land series.
I've always thought that Waluigi would be accepted if he appeared in one
of Wario's games, especially if it were a co-op affair.
If you made a bootleg version
of Wario, you'd get Waluigi.
I can't believe that I didn't realize that seeing as how it's the twenty - fifth anniversary of the release of Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins for the Nintendo Game Boy, it's also the twenty - fifth anniversary
of Wario's first appearance.
Namely, BlueJackG, the Wario remix aficionado who redid the entire soundtrack
of Wario Land 4 in HD with modern instruments and cleaner voice effects.
On the one hand, you've got some of the best 2D platformers around in the form
of the Wario Land series, and some also pretty fantastic party games in the form of the better WarioWare games.
Oh no, he actually has frames for moving his tongue around in game, plus a related one
of Wario dying in an unusual way.
Basically, everyone considers this one the definitive version
of Wario Land II.
Because thanks to a member
of the Wario Forums community called shinespeciall, a new -LSB-...]
Like the weirdly removed fish enemy from the Game Boy Color version
of Wario Land II.
A clone
of Wario and Luigi?
Toad's voice has gone through many changes since it was first heard in the SNES version
of Wario's Woods.
Like Bowser, Toad is shown to be afraid
of Wario and holds him in contempt.
It's a quick but fun read, with the developers joking around as they recount the making
of Wario and the challenges of breaking conventions to create a «different» kind of Mario game.
The laugh they produce is a slowed down version
of Wario's laugh.
Because thanks to a member
of the Wario Forums community called shinespeciall, a new Wario Land 4 editor is now in development.
Makes me think of GBC version
of Wario Land II, which had a branching storyline and lots of secret exits and stuff like that.
It's also the first appearance
of Wario.
It also spawned a spinoff, The Misadventures of Tron Bonne, which feels like a mix of Brutal Legend, Overlord and Armored Core, with the veneer
of Wario Land.
They are also indestructible and much more dangerous than in past games, since they are capable of instantly draining one
of Wario's lives upon contact with the protagonist.
As always, thank you to all the beautiful members and friends
of the Wario Forums for pointing me towards this very fine - crafted game from the past.
Wave 2 includes new sculpts
of Wario, and both Donkey and Diddy Kong.
This is the best troll character this side
of Wario.
But in between Yoshi and Bowser Jr. the series received perhaps its strangest character in the form
of Wario, who was introduced as the villain of Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins.
It should also be noted that, with the exception
of Wario's Castle, the levels are all pretty easy, with the boss fights even more so.
Along with the introduction
of Wario, Super Mario Land 2 is notable for feeling more like a Mario game than its predecessor.
While these things are normally simply common courtesy, it's notable because Waluigi is seemingly always antagonistic towards everyone else (with maybe the exception
of Wario) due to his vain nature.
Prepare for lightning - quick game play as you blaze through over 200 bizarre microgames designed by a crazy crew
of Wario's cronies!
Of course, it isn't entirely old school stuff flowing out
of Wario Land: Shake It!.
