The clashing vibrant blues and oranges contrasted with light oozing dripping washes
of yellow ochre are a treat for the eye.
The earthy tones
of yellow ochre complimented by soft dull lilacs of wisteria - laden - branches create a really mellow colour palette, you then have crumbling walls surrounded by trees and -LSB-...]
For starters, I blocked in the wooden handle with a mix
of yellow ochre and white, with a touch of blue added where the handle shape meets the blade.
With your No. 10 brush put some pale streaks
of Yellow Ochre (or Raw Sienna) across the bottom of the sky.
In the palette, notice that I'm not using pure white yet in the right hand well - just a touch
of yellow ochre added to create warmth for the light shining on the pots.

Unlike other paintings
of this period, it has a
yellow ochre ground, the reason being that she had no white lead at the time and was unable to purchase any because she was snowed in for a number
of days.
David Ryan's Set 2 (c) also seems to have some doubling going on, this time within the one painting, in the repetition
of rectangles that occupy different spaces, one in lime green, one in
yellow ochre and one in white, as well as the containing rectangle
of the support.
With her sumptuous layering

And I use alkyd, which takes about two days to dry, and once it's dry, I then take off the little rubber bumps, which create those little holes with various kinds
of white, which is mixed with a little bit
of cerulean blue, and sometimes with raw umber or
yellow ochre.
My palette contains a warm and cool
of each primary, plus four modifiers:
Yellow Ochre, Burnt Sienna, Blue - Violet and Phthalo
Yellow - Green... just mix as I go for each painting.
Lowry claimed to have only ever used five colours: Flake White (Lead White), Ivory Black, Vermillion Red, Prussian Blue and
Yellow Ochre, all from the art - supply firm Winsor & Newton, but expert analysis
of the paint used in Darby and Joan showed that it contained traces
of Zinc White.
