According to a report from ETNews, Samsung intended to begin production
of a prototype
phone in the third quarter
of 2017, in order to «verify quality
of foldable smartphone
by producing thousands
of prototypes.»
Unfortunately, details about the
foldable phone being developed
by the two tech companies are scarce as
of late.
On Thursday, Dutch website LetsGoDigital spotted sketches
of the Galaxy X
foldable phone that were released
by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
LG has received a patent approval for making
foldable phones and the manufacturer will also launch Android Wear 2.0 watches as confirmed
by images
of two watch models.
Recent rumors also suggested that the
phone will come equipped with two separate screens supported
by a hinge, meaning that the device could be ZTE's rumored
foldable phone that would become the first device
of its kind to ever hit the market.
This does seem too far - fetched but we still have a very good chance
of seeing the first
foldable phone from Samsung
by 2018 - 2019.
While Apple is expected to come out with its first
phone without the home button, rumored to be called the iPhone X, Samsung is said to finally come out with a
foldable smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy X / Galaxy X1, which might be launched
by the end
of the year.
A device that's much closer to the general expectations associated with the concept
of a «
foldable phone» is currently being developed
by Samsung and should be commercialized early next year, according to recent reports.
The screen inside the iPhone X is
foldable as well, and Apple makes use
of the tech
by folding the bottom
of the screen so that it's able to hide the display controller and extend the usable portion
of the display all the way to the bottom
of the
phone.
And,
of course, there's no guarantee that the
foldable phone will make an appearance
by the end
of this year.
Samsung's President says the company is working towards releasing a
foldable phone by the end
of 2018.
