It is caused by a reaction to one of the 15 allergens found in flea saliva, and it can be activated by the
bite of a single flea.
Some dogs and cats are so hypersensitive to the flea's saliva, that they will itch all over from the

Often, just the bite
of a single flea can cause a pup sensitive to certain substances in flea saliva to break out in red, inflamed bumps on the skin and severe itching.
In other cases, the bite
of a single flea will set off itching of the entire body — but especially the webs between the pet's toes.
If this is the case, the bite
of a single flea can send a dog into a paroxysm of chewing, especially around his tail and on his belly and inside hind legs.
