Located in the Perseus Arm of the Galaxy, the Heart and Soul Nebulae are located in a
region of active star formation containing many young clusters of stars.
In galaxies like the Milky Way, dense gas traced by HCN but composed mainly of hydrogen molecules is always associated with regions
of active star formation.
The H - alpha line emission, which indicates regions
of active star formation, is highlighted in blue (SINGG Survey; Meurer +2006).
