The constitution
of the relation between God's revealed law and universal moral law is an intellectual operation that will be conducted differently not only by the respective religious communities themselves, but by
adherents of particular theological and philosophical tendencies
within those communities.
(8) Yet rarely has the church addressed this aspect
of culture in a sustained and balanced way that helps its
adherents live faithful lives
within this particular culture.
The changes in social structures
of moral action, which previously were strongly linked to and supportive

A perfect counter-example is Hinduism, which by construction is more spiritual than religious — it's
adherents do not have strict rules or norms, and there is incredible diversity
of norms
within one umbrella (some who believe in caste system, even though a large majority
of urbanites study in Christian missionary schools; some who believe cows are sacred though 2/3
of Indians are actually non-vegetarian).
Outside
of Europe, it was more or less insignificant, precisely because, by comparison, it lacked both
adherents, and clergy, both
within and without Europe.
Thus
within a little more than a century about half
of Christendom came under the rule
of zealous
adherents of the faith taught by the Arab prophet.
Adherents believe the Christian Bible is inerrant and hold its passages to be historically accurate, including the story
of Noah's Ark, and that the Bible's internal chronology, which places the Flood
within the last five thousand years, is reliable.
But no argument can be made from an «exaltation» interpretation
of the Easter experience that it did not involve appearances
of Jesus, and
within a short time the
adherents of «exaltation» had subscribed to resurrection as the proper interpretation.
Demanding a dispassionately cool anonymity at the expense
of the feverishly assertive personal components that had been the hallmarks
of abstract expressionism, minimalism's
adherents asserted that the meaning
of an artistic entity resided not
within, but rather solely on its surface.
Increasing awareness and clarity among
adherents to a faith or cultural group about variations
within their system
of beliefs and practices.
