Typical of Napa wineries, the grounds are well landscaped, and approaching the entrance along a thickly planted bank
of agapanthus and a long pool with blooming lilies is a true delight.

Get there early — preferably as it opens at 7 am — when the market is buzzing with fishermen cutting chunks
of tuna on marble slabs, fruit sellers spreading numerous passion fruit varieties (such as maracujá banana — banana passion fruit) on their stalls and ladies in traditional costumes preparing flower arrangements using the local
agapanthus and heliconias.
On a low wooden table, a simple urn - style vase supports an ornate display
of lilies, roses, carnations, peonies, hydrangeas, chrysanthemums, irises, narcissus and
agapanthus, in every shade
of yellow, pink, violet, blue, flame orange and crimson.
The planting is naturalistic and rustic, featuring pines, ferns, heather and grasses with a few bits
of colour provided by flowers such as
agapanthus.
The late flowering
agapanthus, unique to Hole Park, and the exotic border will take centre stage in late summer before the reds, yellows and golds
of autumn bring interest during October.
I chose the
agapanthus for the blue, some antique roses, grasses, and a purple orchid branch for a pop
of color!
