Jeremy i was stumped to on this one as well so i asked the holy spirit to help me i looked at alot of different possibilitys commentarys really werent any help apart from the background.Thinking that Jesus was somehow implicated with satan in any way seemed to be a contradiction of who he was.The holy spirit revealed that to understand these types of passages we can fully trust that God is who he says he is he he does nt change his character or who he is.He is almighty holy trustworthy faithful and more.

Jeremy thanks for your comments alot of this i never really thought about before until you provoked me to seek the truth in the word it is what we all should be doing finding the truth for ourselves God wants to reveal mysterys if we are open to hear.If we have been christians awhile we just take the word of whoevers preaching or whichever clip we see on god tube its knowledge but not revelation.Because the story sounds plausible we tag that on to our belief for example for many years i believed that the rich young rulers problem was money so the way to deal with that problem is to give it away and be a follower of Jesus sounds plausible.Till you realise every believers situation is different so the message has to be universal.So the reason its not about money because it excludes those that do nt have it and does nt make room for those that do have it but do nt worship it.The rich young ruler was not a bad person he lived by a good moral code but he made money his idol he put that before God.The word says we shall not have any idols thats a sin and a wicked one.In fact there wasnt any room in his heart for Jesus that is a tragedy.So when we see the message is about Idolatry we all have areas that we chose not to submit to God thats universal everyone of us whether we are rich or poor.I believe we are unaware that we have these idols what are some of them that was revealed to me our partners our children our work our church our family i can sense some of you are getting fidgetty.

Craig i agree totally church should be a slice of heaven on earth that is where corporately as believers come into the prescence of God.Its good when worshiping the Lord to feel his prescence and to feel connected to others because of Jesus.We had our carol service yesterday i was involved in the choir we combined with other churchs in the area it was a good turnout and alot of fun singing as we celebrated the birth of Jesus.It really makes christmas for me.If we love Jesus that should spill out into every area of our lives.He is the one that impacts others through us as we rely on him daily.Merry Christmas to you and your family regards brentnz

Jeremy i agree with what you have written many of the traditions in the church have come from pagan beliefs.I thought some of the comments were judgemental of others especially towards those who are pagan.There response was respectful we can learn alot about having a good attitude towards others and responding to others kindly.I think using scripture in a legalistic way is no different than what the pharisees did to Jesus in his day and he disarmed them by rebuking them saying you without sin cast the first stone.regards brentnz

As far as salvation goes with obtaining it and losing it, theirs alot more studying to do on this topic for me, as far as I know, I do nt know at this time, but I do know that my salvation lies in God's hands and not the hands of men, same goes for anyone condemning anyone else to hell, they do nt trully know because they are not God, but the Bible does tell us that we will know who does the will of God by the fruit they bear, and that a good tree can not produce bad fruit, and vise versa, but ultimatly that persons salvation is in Gods hands, and only God knows the future and what will be.
