Samsung is expecting other firms to take notice
of its foldable phone prototype and perhaps place orders for its new screens, as per PhoneArena.
But a commercial version
of any foldable phone prototype now won't debut until 2019 at least, Samsung has claimed.

According to a report from ETNews, Samsung intended to begin production
of a
prototype phone in the third quarter
of 2017, in order to «verify quality
of foldable smartphone by producing thousands
of prototypes.»
While
foldable phones probably won't hit the mass market until 2019, Samsung may be prepared to unveil such a device in
prototype form before the end
of the year.
The
foldable design could allow Samsung to use larger displays on its
phones, especially since the South Korean company has recently unveiled a
prototype of a rollable OLED screen at the SID 2016 event in San Francisco.
While we are seeing the reports
of foldable phones since 2011, the tech giant last year presented the
foldable phone prototypes, it is clear that folding smartphones are no longer being taken as a gimmick.
The idea
of a
foldable phone isn't new to Samsung, in fact way back in 2011 the company showed off a
prototype of exactly that.
But apparently
prototypes of the folding
phone have already been shown off behind closed doors at CES 2018, which took place in January, while Samsung's Q4 2017 financial results included claims that
foldable OLED panels and
phones could be a big money - maker for Samsung in 2018 and beyond - which is yet more evidence that the Galaxy X is coming soon.
