The sensors aid in the diagnosis and
treatment of aphasia, a communication disorder associated with stroke.
Hillis noted that it can be difficult to determine early on which
variant of aphasia a patient has, as most patients begin by struggling with naming and spelling of words, regardless of variant.
Children who have learned to read and write before the
onset of aphasia can sometimes continue reading and writing even after their verbal skills seem to have disintegrated.
Koen Delaere's work is currently exhibited in a solo show named «Wipe That
Simile Of Your Aphasia» at Rod Barton Gallery Brussels, Belgium.
East Hanover, NJ — January 24, 2018 — Olga Boukrina, PhD, research scientist in Stroke Rehabilitation Research at Kessler Foundation, has received a $ 10,000 grant from the Mabel H. Flory Charitable Trust to continue to study the role of reading deficits as a barrier to stroke rehabilitation, specifically the
treatment of aphasia.
Testing can also help doctors identify the semantic
variant of aphasia, which causes difficulties comprehending word meanings.
