After a
day of apple picking at a local farm (a family tradition) we love to follow up the hands - on experience with further apple fun.
Since my favorite
season of apple picking is just beginning, hopefully you'll see some apple themed desserts appearing on the blog in the next few weeks.
I have many fond memories
of apple picking on a crisp day then coming home to warm up with a nice cup of hot chocolate.
The leaves just start to turn and the air cools down,

I actually just made your Oatmeal Raisin ice cream which was wonderful and went incredibly well with Apple Crisp made from the
ton of apples I picked a week ago.
It made ~ 30, and following other reviewers, I made these modifications: - Subbed out 1/2 c white sugar for ~ 1/4 c molasses (for extra spice)- Upped the amount of spices overall - Skipped the glaze - Wrung out most but not all of the juice from my apples - Used a
variety of apples picked locally - MacIntosh, Gala, MacSpur, Johnees, etc..
These are some of our favorite orchards — some may be nearing the
end of their apple picking season, so it would be a good idea to call ahead.
Instead of apple picking and eating delicious cider donuts, I am going to attempt some new recipies in the kitchen (wish me luck!)
