That's marvelous information, but responsive only if we assume I was using the
names of apple varieties to refer to apples.
Part of the fun is deciding which fruits are going to make it into your bag, and many orchards have a
selection of apple varieties available to pick at any time during the season.
I usually try to use a
combination of apple varieties when making an apple version of this recipe just because I feel it creates a more complex flavor, but any of the above listed apples or pears will work out great.
Also I think it's been since like 2013 since we had many of these, so trust these comments as much as you trust me to remember my
opinion of an apple variety for several years.
At a farmers market yesterday, I squealed out loud at the bounty of autumnal offerings:
dozens of apple varieties, leafy greens galore, butternut squash, acorn squash, sweet potatoes, oh my!
At one time the local area was the largest apple market in the West, but eventually Washington state surpassed the Pajaro Valley because the local growers couldn't supply
all of the apple varieties the market demanded all year long.
I love heading down the farmers market on a Sunday morning and seeing
all of the apple varieties.
